PAST EVENTSNewborn Haley Elizabeth Moffett was dedicated to the glory of God by her parents, Greg and Jessica Moffett, during the morning worship July 27. A reception followed the service in Haley's honor. The Youth Group went on its 3rd Mission Trip to New Orleans, July 6-12, to assist the rebuilding effort for the Katrina hurricane victims. Youth spent the week hanging sheetrock, painting, and replacing siding on one of the homes in the area. A Seder Meal was observed during Holy Week as we remembered our Lord's last supper with the Disciples. What a wonderful Valentine's Day observance it was as couples renewed their marriage vows in the February 17 worship services! We thank all those who celebrated the renewal of vows. The Hanging of the Green on the first Sunday in Advent was the highlight of December as the congregation prepared to sanctuary for the birth of our Lord. On Christmas Eve the church observed a candlelight communion service in anticipation of the birth of Jesus. A Thanksgiving Luncheon at the new church property featured a wonderful spread of food as hungry SOJ'ers gathered for an afternoon of fun and fellowship. Beckie Bennion, Hospitality Coordinator, hosted a first ever Pie Contest with proceeds donated to the Food Bank. The Youth Group sponsored a Lock-In the night of October 20. Over 20 people were in attendance as youth enjoyed games, food and lots of fun. Youth Pastor Justin Safley and wife Mallory oversaw the event. The Men's Group formed in September and is actively pursuing new ministries. The subject of study for the next several weeks is Tony Dungy's book Quiet Strength. Tony is coach of the Indianapolis Colts. Spirit of Joy closed on the purchase of 8.5 acres at 5526 Hog Mountain Road Monday, August 20. Preparations are underway for a building program for the new church facility. A Luau was held to honor Leah Robinson and James Burnham August 26 at the Cinnamon Cove Clubhouse. The Food Bank celebrated a milestone in July 2007 by serving over 8000 people. The youth group spent a week in mission in Gulfport, MS July 8-15 and assisted the victims of Hurricane Katrina rebuild their homes. The 6th Annual Car Show and Cookout was held in downtown Flowery Branch on June 2, 2007. We thank the the City of Flowery Branch for making the town available for this wonderful event. High school graduates were honored during a special presentation during morning worship in May. Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday were celebrated and Easter lilies graced the sanctuary. Valentine's Day was observed during the morning service with
the annual Wedding Vow Renewals. The month of December saw the sanctuary decorated in Christmas finery with wreaths on the wall, poinsettias placed around the sanctuary, and the Chrismon tree decorated with symbols of the Christ child. The church observed the fourth anniversary of the founding of the church's Food Bank on November 3 with a reception honoring its directors. An all church fellowship dinner was held at Duncan's Lake Pavillion following morning worship. Bob and Peggy Burns
hosted the wonderful event that included a cookout, games, fellowship
and swimming.
